Mamie Van Doren born Joan Lucille Olander on February 6 1931 is an American actor, singer and sex icon. She is most likely best known for the rock 'n' roll, film about juvenile delinquency and exploitation Untamed Youth (1957).Van Doren was born on the 6th of February, 1931 in Rowena, South Dakota, the daughter of Warner Carl Olander and Lucille Harriet Bennett. Three-quarters of her family's ancestry is Swedish and the remainder is mixed English/German. Van Doren began her work at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood as an usher in the 1946s. Van Doren was a minor character in an early TV show following the year. She sang with Ted Fio's band and was a contestant in numerous beauty contests. When she was 17 she moved to Santa Barbara, California, with Jack Newman, but because of his abusive behavior, the marriage ended quickly. At 18 years old, she was awarded the Miss Eight Ball and Miss Palm Springs titles in 1949. .
