Victor Hugo

 Victor-Marie Hugo (French pronunciation: [viktoR MaRi ygo]; 26 February 1802 - 22 May 1885) is a French Romantic writer as well as politician and politician. He wrote in a variety of genres over a sixty-year literary career. Hugo is considered one of the greatest French writers in all time.His most famous work are his novels The Hunchback of Notre-Dame (1831) and Les Miserables (1862). Hugo is famous in France for his poetic collection, including Les Contemplations (The Contemplations), and La Legende des siecles ("The Legend of the Ages") Hugo was in the forefront of the Romantic literary movement through his play Cromwell and the drama Hernani. A number of his works have inspired music, both during his lifetime and after his death, such as the opera Rigoletto as well as musicals Les Miserables and Notre-Dame de Paris. Hugo made more than 4000 drawings in his lifetime and was a vocal advocate for social causes, such as the abolishment of capital punishment.
