Russ Abbot

 Russ Abbot (born Russell Allan Roberts; 18 September 1947) is an English musician, comedian and actor. Born in Chester, he first came to public notice during the 1970s as the singer and drummer with British comedy showband the Black Abbots, later forging a prominent solo career as a television comedian with his own weekly show on British television.Continuing his musical career as a solo artist, Abbot released several charting singles and albums. His career has progressed with an evolution towards more mainstream serious acting in television shows, series, and stage productions.As an actor and drummer, Abbot joined the Black Abbots (founded by Robert Turner) in Chester in the mid-1960s. They released a few singles with moderate chart success on smaller labels in the early 1970s.The group got their first major record deal in 1977 and then released comedy singles and one live album (Abbot is now singing lead) prior to disbanding in the year 1980. He was awarded the 'Funniest person on television' award five more times. Abbot, who was born Abbot was a regular in the show The Comedians.
