The technique is referred to as"the "Ken Burns effect". Burns has been awarded over 20 honorary degrees. His film "The Civil War" has won over 40 important TV and film awards, won two Emmy Awards and two Grammy Awards, Producer of the Year Award (from the Producers Guild of America), an People's Choice Award and a Peabody Award. He also received a duPont–Columbia Award as well as a D. W. Griffith Award. The $50,000 Lincoln Prize was awarded to him. The 2017 documentary "The Vietnam War" was also highly praised. There is the Ken Burns Wing at Hampshire College's Jerome Liebling Center for Film, Photography, and Video. In 2004, Burns was awarded the S. Roger Horchow Award for the most outstanding public service by a Private Citizen. This award is handed each year by Jefferson Awards.
