Jo Raquel Welch (nye Tejada born on September 5, 1940) is an American actress. She was first noticed for her performance in Fantastic Voyage (1966), following which she was awarded an agreement with 20th Century Fox. They loaned her contract to Hammer Film Productions in Britain which was where she appeared in One Million Years B.C. (1966). While she only had three dialogue lines in the film, pictures of her in her doe-skin bikini became best-selling posters that turned her into an international sex icon. Later, she starred in Bedazzled (1967) and Bandolero! (1968) 100 Rifles (1969), Myra Breckinridge (1970) and Hannie Caulder (1971). Welch was a mainstay on numerous variety shows on television. Her performance of powerful women characters allowed her to break the mould of the traditional sex symbol. Her rise to stardom in the late 1960s was responsible for ending Hollywood's vigorous advertising of blondes as a bombshell. She was awarded the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture Actress in a Musical or Comedy in 1974 for her performance in The Three Musketeers.
