 Mariah Carey, born March 27 1969 is an American singer-songwriter and actress. She is also a record producer and actress. The name is often referred to as the "Songbird Supreme" as well as the "Queen of Christmas" She is renowned for her five-octave vocal range, melismatic singing style her signature usage of the whistle register and songs written by her. Carey became a household name with her debut album. Carey was the first singer to have her first five singles go to the top of the Billboard Hot 100. They were "Vision of Love" and "Emotions". Carey was engaged to Tommy Mottola three years later. Carey had additional success with the albums Music Box (1993), Merry Christmas (1994), and Daydream (1995), with singles including "Hero", "Without You", "All I Want for Christmas is You", "Fantasy", "Always Be My Baby" and "One Sweet Day" which was the top single on the US Billboard Hot 100 decade-end chart (1990s). After separating from Mottola, Carey adopted a new look and introduced more elements of hip-hop in Butterfly (1997).
