 Marshall Bruce Mathers III (born on the 17th of October, 1972), known professionally as Eminem (/,emI'nem/; stylized as EMIN3M) is an American musician and rapper. The rapper is believed to have popularized hip hop in middle America and is widely recognized as one of the greatest rappers ever. Eminem's worldwide success and highly acclaimed works are widely believed to have dismantled the racial barriers that had prevented white rappers from being accepted in the mainstream music scene. Though his sexy work in the late 1990s and early 2000s caused him to be widely criticized and he became an icon of the popular angst and despair of the American poor and is cited as an influence for many artists of various genres.After the release of his debut album Infinite (1996) and the extended play Slim Shady EP (1997), Eminem signed with Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment and subsequently achieved the mainstream spotlight in 1999 with the release of The Slim Shady LP. The next two albums, The Marshall Mathers LP (2000) and The Eminem Show (2002) were his second.
