Tulsi Gabbard was born on April 12 1981. She is an American politician and United States Army Reserve officer. Gabbard was also the first Hindu member of Congress, and the first Samoan American elected to Congress. She was a candidate for the Democratic nomination in 2020's United States presidential election, before leaving the party and becoming an independent candidate in October 2022.In 2002, Gabbard was elected to the Hawaii House of Representatives at the age of 21. Gabbard was a member of an medical field unit that was part of the Hawaii Army National Guard while deployed to Iraq from 2004 to 2005. She also served in Kuwait from 2008 until 2009 as an Army Military Police platoon leader. She was an active member of Congress and served as vice-chairperson of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) from 2013 until 2016. In 2016 she resigned her position to endorse Bernie Sanders' 2016 Democratic presidential campaign.
