Jared Fogle

 "Fogle admits that he committed inexcusable acts for which he assumes complete responsibility and is truly regretful... But the ruling of the District Court is a blow to the concepts of fairness and trust that undergird the delicate process of plea bargaining." The appeal that was filed recently asserts that the 15-year sentence is "unreasonable" because it is over the maximum amount requested by the prosecutor in the plea deal. Particularly, as part of the plea bargain, Fogle would plead guilty and not request an imprisonment term of less than five years. Likewise, the prosecution would not request a prison sentence of more than 12 years. Fogle also paid out more than $1.0 million in compensation to fourteen of his victims. Fogle's defense attorney states in the appeal that in 2015, Fogle admitted to paying for sexual sex with girls who were between the ages of 16 and 17 years old, as well as receiving child pornography from the former director of his charity, Russel Taylor, who was recently sentenced to 27 years in prison for child exploitation and pornography distribution. The appeal states that Fogle ought to be sentenced again since the judge who sentenced him took into consideration claims that Fogle had never been criminally charged.
