Phil

The Greek root -phil- originates from the Greek word that means "love". For instance, philosophy (along with the Greek root -soph, which translates to "wisdom") is the study of human behavior and the meaning of life. One of the most popular applications of the root philis to refer to philias.A"philia" is the affection or passion for a specific object or topic. The suffix -philia is used to specify the love or obsession with something that is more specific. It's a bit antonymous to the word phobia. Philias may be biological (e.g. Rhizophilia is a desire to live in roots), or chemical (e.g. Chromophilous, which are substances that are easily stained) or could be a pastime or an interest (e.g. Icthyophilia is the love of fish. Philia (TSyKHy), is a Greek word that means love, is the term used to describe brotherly affection, friendship and love. This is in contrast to the Greek words Eros, or sexual/romantic love, as well as agape, or spiritual love detached. However, English usage differs in certain instances from the etymological usage and a number of these words refer to sexual attraction in English not to love between brothers, but to sexual attraction.
