Mamie Van Doren, born Joan Lucille Olander on February 6, 1931 is an American actress, singer and the sex icon. Her most famous film is the rock 'n ' roll and juvenile delinquency film Untamed Youth (1957). She was the daughter of Warner Carl Olander (South Dakota) and Lucille Harriet Bennett (Rowena, South Dakota). Three-quarters of her ancestry is Swedish while the rest are mixed English/German. Van Doren started working at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood as an usher in the early 1946s. In the following year, she got an appearance on an early TV show. She sang in Ted Fio's band and was a contestant in various beauty contests. She got married to Jack Newman at 17 and relocated to Santa Barbara, California. However, the abusive nature of Jack Newman caused the marriage to break up quickly. When she was 18 years old she was awarded the Miss Eight Ball and Miss Palm Springs titles in 1949. .
