Jessica Michelle Chastain, born March 24, 1977 is an American actress. She is most well-known for her roles in films that feature themes of women's empowerment. She has won numerous awards including an Academy Award, and a Golden Globe Award. Time magazine named her one the 100 most influential people globally in 2012. She was born in 1962, and began acting from a young age. Her first stage appearance was in 1998, when she played Shakespeare's Juliet. After completing her acting studies at the Juilliard School, she was accepted into a talent-holding deal with the TV producer John Wells. Law & Order: Trial by Jury was one of her regular guest appearances on television. She also played roles in the stage productions of Anton Chekhov's play The Cherry Orchard in 2004 and the Oscar Wilde tragedy Salome in 2006.After making her debut in film at age 31 with the drama Jolene (2008), Chastain made her debut in the year 2011 with six films which included the dramatics Take Shelter (2011) and The Tree of Life (2011).
