Carrie Marie Underwood (born March 10, 1983) is an American country artist. She rose to prominence after winning the fourth season of American Idol in 2005. The first artist from the country music industry to debut at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts and the only solo country artist to make it to the top spot on the Hot 100 in 2000s. Her debut album, Some Hearts (2005), was bolstered by the hit crossover singles "Jesus Take the Wheel" and "Before He Cheats", becoming the best-selling solo female debut album in country music history. The album was awarded three Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist. Carnival Ride (2007), her album that followed, had one of the best opening weeks ever by any female artist. It also won two Grammy Awards. The single "Cowboy Casanova" was her third studio album, was released before Play On (2009). The album had one of the highest single-week upward movements on the Hot 100.
