LaMelo LaFrance Ball (born on the 22nd of August, 2001) is an American professional basketball player for the Charlotte Hornets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Hornets chose him as the third overall selection during the 2020 NBA draft. Ball was named the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2021 and also as an NBA All-Star in 2022. He was a student at Chino Hills High school in Chino Hills, California. In Chino Hills, he won the state championship and also had national success as a freshman along with his brothers Lonzo and LiAngelo. Following his junior year, a dispute with his coach caused him to sign with the Lithuanian professional team Prienai. In the year 2018, he played in the Junior Basketball Association (JBA) the league that was created by his father. He then going back to school in the year he was a senior with SPIRE Academy in Geneva, Ohio. Ball was a five-star player who committed to UCLA. However, eligibility concerns led him to play for the Illawarra Hawks in the National Basketball League (NBL). There he had a meteoric increase. Ball was mocked by scouts the fact that they had feared Ball would never be a player in the NBA.
