 The game of association football is also referred to as football or soccer. It is played between two teams of eleven players, who make use of their feet to propel the ball around on a rectangular playing field. The aim of the game is to score more goals than the opposition by moving the ball beyond the goal line and into a rectangular framed goal which is defended by the opposition. In the past, the game has been played in two 45 minute halves, with a total game time of 90 minutes. With more than 250 million active players in over 200 countries and territories, it is considered the world's most popular sport.The game of football in association is played accordance to the Laws of the Game, a set of rules that have been in force since 1863 and the International Football Association Board (IFAB) maintaining them since 1886. A football measuring between 68 and 70cm (27-28in) in size is used for the game. Teams compete to kick the ball into the other team's goal (between the posts and under the bar) which results in goals. The ball is played by players who use their feet. However, they can use all of their bodies to control, strike or throw the ball. Only goalkeepers can utilize their hands and arms.
