 A baby carrier is a soft, padded baby carrier that you can carry on your back. Some have adjustable options that allow you to wear your baby on either your hips or back. Backpacks are only worn on the back. They're suitable for older babies and toddlers who are able to hold up their heads. Consult your GP or your child's or caregiver if your baby is too old to use backpacks. The knees of your baby should be spread apart, the thighs should be supported, and the hips must be bent.Healthy hip positioning encourages proper hip development in infants and reduces the risk of developing dysplasia on the hip.These images were taken with permission from the International Hip Dysplasia Institute.There's no Australian guidelines for baby carriers, slings or backpacks. However, the following guidelines can help you choose a safe baby carrier:
