Audrey Hepburn (born Audrey Kathleen Ruston 4 May 1929 - 20 January 1993) was a British[a] actor and humanitarian. She is an iconic film and fashion icon. The American Film Institute ranked her as the third-highest female screen legend of Classical Hollywood cinema. She was also admitted into the International Best Dressed List Hall of Fame. Hepburn was born in Ixelles in Brussels to an noble couple. She spent a portion of her childhood in England, Belgium and the Netherlands. She trained in ballet with Sonia Gaskell in Amsterdam beginning in 1945. She also studied with Marie Rambert in London from 1948. When she began her career, she was a West End chorus girl, she made minor roles in several films. She rose to stardom in the romantic comedy Roman Holiday (1953) alongside Gregory Peck, for which she became the first actress to receive an Oscar and the Golden Globe Award, and an award called a BAFTA Award for a single performance. She also won the Tony Award for Best Lead Actress in a Play that year for her role in Ondine.
